Mama Tried Lyrics

Merle Haggard

The first thing I remember knowing
Was a lonesome whistle blowing
And a young’un’s dream of growing up to ride
On a freight train leaving town
Not knowing where I’m bound
And no one could change my mind, but Mama tried

One and only rebel child
From a family meek and mild
My mama seemed to know what lay in store
Despite all my Sunday learning
Towards the bad I kept on turning
Till Mama couldn’t hold me anymore

And I turned twenty-one in prison doing life without parole
No one could steer me right, but Mama tried, Mama tried
Mama tried to raise me better, but her pleading I denied
That leaves only me to blame ’cause Mama tried

Dear old Daddy, rest his soul
Left my mom a heavy load
She tried so very hard to fill his shoes
Working hours without rest
Wanted me to have the best
She tried to raise me right, but I refused

And I turned twenty-one in prison doing life without parole
No one could steer me right, but Mama tried, Mama tried
Mama tried to raise me better, but her pleading I denied
That leaves only me to blame ’cause Mama tried

Place to Fall Apart Lyrics

Merle Haggard

I’ll probably never see you eye to eye again
This letter’s meant to be my last farewell
But you need to under-stand I’m nearly crazy
You need to know my life has gone to hell

Write me back and tell me why it ended
Send a letter that I can show my heart
I’ll be somewhere between “I love you” and what you’re feeling now
Lookin’ for a place to fall apart

Looking for a place to fall apart
Trying to find a place that I can leave my heart
I need to be somewhere hidin’ when I feel the teardrops start
Lookin’ for a place to fall a-part

I can’t seem to justify your leavin’ me
I’m be-wildered as to how it all came down
I thought everything was fine until your phone call
The call that turned my world around
Send me word and tell me why it ended
I need some final proof to show my heart
I’ll be somewhere between “I love you” and what you’re feelin’ now (I love you)
Lookin’ for a place to fall apart

Looking for a place to fall apart
Trying to find a place that I can leave my heart
I need to be somewhere hidin’ when I feel the teardrops start
Lookin’ for a place to fall a-part

Looking for a place to fall apart
Trying to find a place that I can leave my heart
I need to be somewhere hidin’ when I feel the teardrops start
Lookin’ for a place to fall a-part

Blue Clear Sky Lyrics

George Strait

You swear you’ve had enough, you’re ready to give up
On that little lie they call love, then out of the blue clear sky
Fallin’ right into your hands, like rain on the desert sand
It’s the last thing you had planned out of the blue clear sky.

Here she comes a walkin’ talkin’ true love
Sayin’ I been lookin’ for you love
Surprise your new love has arrived
Out of the blue clear sky.

Ain’t love a funny thing, one day you’re givin’ up the dream
And the next you’re pickin’ out a ring out of the blue clear sky.

Here she comes a walkin’ talkin’ true love
Sayin’ I been lookin’ for you love
Surprise your new love has arrived
Out of the blue clear sky.
