“Good Morning John” – A Kris Kristofferson Tribute Song To Friend Johnny Cash (Live Performance)

Watch Kris Kristofferson performs on stage a song that he wrote entitled “Good Morning John” in response to his good friend Johnny Cash’s ongoing struggle with addiction. At a party celebrating Cash’s sobriety, friends were invited to write a letter, but Kristofferson chose to write a song instead.

“Everyone was supposed to say something inspirational, so I wrote a song,” Kristofferson tells Billboard. “I tried to record this once before with Wilie Nelson and my band. When I sang the chorus, they echoed me when I would sing “Good morning John.” When I got to the line that said “I love you, John,” Willie said “He loves you, John,” and we all cracked up laughing. We never finished it, so I finished it myself.”

Watch this beautiful version of the King Country Music, George Strait, of this rodeo ballad song Amarillo By Morning. This song was written by Terry Stafford and Paul Fraser. It has become one of Country music’s most recognizable anthems and propelled George Strait to stardom. But despite being George Strait’s most famous tune, it is not one of his record #1 singles. Two legendary top country singers Merle Haggard and Willie Nelson performed this number 1 hit single “Okie from Muskogee.” Upon release of this song in 1969, it immediately broke in popularity when it reached No. 1 on the Billboard magazine Hot Country Singles chart, where it remained for four weeks. Merle Haggard, in full Merle Ronald Haggard, (born April 6, 1937, Oildale, California, U.S.—died April 6, 2016, near Redding, California), American singer, guitarist, and songwriter, one of the most popular country music performers of the late 20th century, with nearly 40 number one country hits between the late 1960s and the mid-1980s.

Haggard won numerous awards from the Country Music Association and the Academy of Country Music, and in 1984 he captured a Grammy Award for best country vocal performance for “That’s the Way Love Goes.” He was inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame (1994) and the Songwriters Hall of Fame (2007).
